Coco and Boy . Biarritz 1915

“COCO AVANT CHANEL” 2009

COCO & BOY

 – BIARRITZ –

1915

A small coastal town becomes the center of the cosmopolitan aristocracy

R

ussian, Parisian, English and Spanish men and women meet here to escape the war, take a break from military service, fly the falling Russian Empire or simply breathing some french air. Spain is 30 km away, a twin more than a neighbour. A peaceful sister that stays neutral while Europe fights one of the worst wars of its history.

T

he days are bright, the bay of Biscay welcomes the Atlantic waves to Europe, the casino is crowded and the beaches are a postcard of elegant stripes, stormy scarves and nostalgic aviators.

Coco Chanel

opens here her third boutique after Paris and Deauville and her first couture house. Arthur “Boy” Capel supports and inspires her. He is the emblem of the rootless noble youth of 20’s Biarritz: an intellectual, politician, polo-player, son of a British shipping merchant and above all the muse and lover of Coco Chanel.

w

e can imagine them strolling across Biarritz’s Années Folles parties, endless nights of gold and glitters and champagne and cocktails, dreaming about future, after the war, conquering the world with a new style that turned Victorian dolls into working-travelling-independent women.

a

few years later you could easily cross here other couples and celebrities: Ernest Hemingway, Frank Sinatra, Gary Cooper.

But Boy and Coco will always have Biarritz.

BOY COCKTAIL

A cocktail we created for a Chanel event we realized together with the great @balboste_paris team.

Inspired by the first love of Coco Chanel and by the Englishmen visiting Biarritz during the Années Folles.

An original creation based on the “Aviation”, a classic from the 20s that reminds the colours of the clouds and the end of the First World War, with a touch of Hystérie liquor and gold salt to pay tribute to the crazy Années Folles.

Ingredients

– Citadelle Gin _ @citadellegin

– Violet Liqueur Cambusier _ @liqueurs_cambusier

– Maraschino

– HTheoria Hystérie Liqueur _ @htheoria

– Gold Salt
